Our County's History...

The history of Tillamook County serves as a reminder of the diverse people who have called it home. From the Tillamook Indians to Captain Gray’s 1788 voyage into Tillamook Bay, this stretch of the north Oregon coast is a living memorial to those who came before. Tillamook County’s rich history is preserved for all to enjoy at the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum.

Beginning with a collection of 400 items, TCPM has now grown to include 55,000 items plus an additional 20,000 photographs. The current collection ranges from prehistoric specimens to modern day. On your next visit to Tillamook County, stop by and enjoy our Historic Past at the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum.

Our Mission...

To preserve and interpret the Cultural Heritage of the North Oregon Coast and to foster appreciation and respect of the North Oregon Coast's Environment.
I love this museum! It has everything from
Native American belongings to an extensive collection
of Oregon birds and animals."

We are a proud Charter Member of the Tillamook Coast History Alliance!

In August 2013,  the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum, Latimer Quilt and Textile Center, Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, Tillamook Air Museum, Kilchis Point Reserve and the Garibaldi Museum came together to offer the public a unique history experience: A Step Back in Time. We offered a flat ticket price to all these organizations for one day. The organizations had special events planned so there was something for everyone.

After successfully working together for two years on A Step Back in Time, the group decided to form an alliance. The organization was called the "Tillamook Coast History Alliance" (TCHA). Through the several years of enjoying working together, we found out that we can all help each other to bring a positive history experience to our patrons.

Once TCHA was formed, we embraced other history organizations around Tillamook County. In 2015, we added the Tillamook Historical Society, Nehalem Valley Historical Society, Cape Meares Lighthouse, and the Tillamook County Quilt Trail. In 2017, we added Mike's Fire House Museum in Tillamook. The alliance meets quarterly, but we are in constant communication with each other. For more information about TCHA and the Step Back in Time event, please visit our website at: www.tchistoryalliance.org.
